Let's Kill the CBDTPA, aka the SSSCA

Note that this is years old & out of date. It's here mainly to show people how easy it is to call your Congresscritter!

This is a terrible bill, and it would be a horrendous law. If you need information about it, go to http://www.eff.org/alerts/20020322_eff_cbdtpa_alert.html and read. For two excellent articles about just how bad this thing is, see: http://www.wired.com/news/politics/0,1283,51245,00.html and http://www.wired.com/news/politics/0,1283,51274,00.html and especially http://www.wired.com/news/politics/0,1283,51275,00.html.

We need to call out Congresspersons and tell them to vote AGAINST this bill.

I just got off the phone with assistants to our two senators from Missouri. Here are the phone numbers:

Sen. Bond ~ (202) 224-5721
Sen. Carnahan ~ (202) 224-6154

Here's what was said:

Me: 'Hello. My name is Scott Granneman. I live in St. Louis, and I'm calling to register my opposition to a bill that's been introduced in the Senate.'

Ass't.: 'What bill is that, sir?'

Me: 'S. 2048. It has been introduced by Senator Hollings, and it's known as the CBDTPA, or the Consumer Broadband and Digital Television Promotion Act. I'm calling the Senator to voice my opposition to this bill.'

Ass't.: 'And where do you live?'

Me: '6047 Waterman, St. Louis, MO, 63112.'

Ass't: 'Thank you very much. I'll let the Senator know.'

End of conversation. Total time: 60 seconds.

Now, you know this bill is absolutely horrible. You know your senators' phone numbers. You know that calling each of them to say you're against this horrible bill will take a grand total of 120 seconds.

SO WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU WAITING FOR? CALL THEM NOW!

Let's kill this bill.

Thanks.
