First of all, let's dispense with FrontPage.
The main reason DW is superior to FP is in its extensibility. There are HUNDREDS of free add-ons for DW that we can download and install to extend the capabilities of that already-comprehensive program. We can change the menu structure any time we want. We can change the buttons, the palettes, or just about anything else. We can tailor the program to work like *we* want it to work. You can't do that with MSFT - they already know what is best for you.
Other reasons DW is superior to FP:
You're not locked into proprietary FP extensions.
DW is tied into other great programs, like TopStyle & HomeSite/BBEdit.
If you go into the code, DW's code view is superior to FP's.
You can see the code AND the WYSIWYG environment at the same time, without having to switch between the two.
You can easily create Flash buttons in DW, without having to buy Flash.
Integration with Fireworks is thorough and quite a time-saver.
One reason FP is superior to DW:
It looks like Office.
We tell our students this: if you're a professional, use Dreamweaver. If you're a dilettante, use FrontPage.
