Configure Firefox

I told you how to Install Firefox, but you're still not finished. You need to configure Firefox's preferences. To begin, select the Tools menu (the Edit menu, if you're using Linux), & then Preferences:

Note: These instructions and screenshots cover Firefox 1.0, and they should be valid for some time. Nevertheless, things may change in future versions of Firefox, so be careful, use your head, and be flexible.

Another note: Do not click OK until you are completely finished setting all preferences!

General

Change the Home Page to something you'd like, if you don't like the default (a customized page at Google).

Press the Fonts & Colors button.

Change Proportional to Sans Serif.

Change Sans-serif to Verdana (if you're using Linux, try Bitstream Vera Sans instead).

Change Monospace to Andale Mono (if it's on your system; if you're using Linux, try Bitstream Vera Sans Mono instead).

Press OK to close the Fonts & Colors window.

Privacy

Click the + next to Cookies to expand it.

Check the boxes next to Allow sites to set cookies & for the originating web site only.

Next to Keep Cookies, select ask me every time.

Web Features

Click the Advanced button next to Enable Javascript.

Uncheck the box next to Move or resize existing windows.

Uncheck the box next to Raise or lower windows.

Uncheck the box next to Disable or replace context menus.

Essentially, uncheck all boxes except the one next to Change images.

Downloads

Check the box next to Close the Download Manager when all downloads are complete.

Advanced

Check the box next to Begin finding when you begin typing.

In the "Open links from other applications in" section, select the radio button next to a new tab in the most recent window.

Uncheck the box next to Hide the tab bar when only web site is open.
