Macromedia's HomeSite ~ The best straight HTML editor for Windows. Period.
- Macromedia: HomeSite ~ Macromedia's Web page introducing you to HomeSite. You can download a trial version of HomeSite, & you can read more about this great software. HomeSite costs $90, although it is bundled with PC versions of Dreamweaver, discussed below.

BBEdit ~ The best straight HTML editor for Macs.
- Bare Bones Software's BBEdit ~ This program has been around quite a long time, and it shows. BBEdit is robust and powerful. If you use a Mac, this is the program to get. BBEdit costs $120, although it is bundled with Mac versions of Dreamweaver, discussed below.
- BBEdit Tips and Tricks ~ It hasn't been updated since November of 1999, but this site still has some useful information.
Macromedia's Dreamweaver ~ The best WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) Web creation tool. Period. For Windows & Macs.

Dreamweaver costs $300, and it's worth every penny (note that there is a substantial academic discount).

- Dreamweaver WebRing ~ 31 sites, all devoted to Dreamweaver. Although a lot of this content is hit or miss, you can find some great stuff here.

- Massimo's Corner of the web ~ This is a great site about Dreamweaver. The author keeps it up to date, which unfortunately is not true of a lot of the sites in the Dreamweaver WebRing. Massimo provides a lot of great extensions, as well as tips & other information. Definitely check this one out.
- Dreamweaver Bible - Resources ~ A list of Web sites devoted to Dreamweaver.
Where can I find Dreamweaver extensions?
- Macromedia Exchange for Dreamweaver ~ One of the best features about Dreamweaver, one that really sets it apart, is its extensibility. People can easily add features to Dreamweaver, so that the program can do just about anything you can imagine. A lot of these extensions are of extremely high quality, and they are all free! Macromedia uses the Exchange as a central hub from which users can read about and download the extensions they need. Check it out - it's great!
- Dreamweaver Extensions Database ~ A searchable collection of extensions to Dreamweaver.
- Dreamweaver Supply Bin ~ Some useful Objects & Behaviors on this site.

HTML-Kit ~ A free HTML editor that is really quite excellent. Windows only.
- Chami's HTML-Kit ~ This is really a pretty fabulous tool. It's a lot like HomeSite, but it's free! We highly encourage you to check this one out. Windows only.
- HTML-Kit Plugins ~ Extensions to HTML-Kit. You'll be amazed to find out what this program can do!
Adobe GoLive ~ The second popular WYSIWYG Web dev tool. Better than FrontPage, not as good as Dreamweaver. Mainly used in Adobe-centric shops. Runs on Mac & Windows.

Microsoft's FrontPage ~ A popular WYSIWYG Web site tool, quite popular in corporate environments. Not recommended for professional Web development. Windows only (there's a Mac version, but it hasn't been updated in years, and it is pathetically bad).
- Microsoft's FrontPage ~ Information straight from the mothership. FrontPage costs $150, or it can also come bundled with certain versions of Microsoft Office as well.
