RSS

Revolutionizing the way we create & read news

Before using this page, you might want to check out my brief answer to the question, What the heck is RSS?

What's RSS, Real Simple Syndication?

  • What is RSS? ~ An excellent and brief overview of RSS, written by Mark Pilgrim, one of the leading developers in the RSS world. From O'Reilly.
  • Making An RSS Feed ~ A very good overview of RSS, provided by Danny Goodman of Search Engine Watch.
  • Radio and RSS ~ A directory of sites, overseen by UserLand, about UserLand's Radio and RSS.
  • RSS ~ Yet another directory about RSS from UserLand.
  • RSS Info ~ Readers, Feeds, Tools, Resources, Specs, & more. excellent_star: Excellent!
  • RSS FAQ ~ It is what it says ... it's an FAQ about RSS.
  • RSS at WebReference ~ A fantastic selection of resources about RSS from WebReference.com. excellent_star: Excellent!
  • RSS Workshop ~ This page from Utah's state government is a bit hard to read, but it is chock-full of great info and links on RSS.
  • RSS Monkey ~ "RSS Monkey is a simple, stand-alone script that allows you to add RSS feeds from other sites to your personal site, or for you to maintain several versions of your own RSS feed."
  • RSS LinkFest ~ It's not long, but it's a really good collection of links covering all aspects of RSS.

I'd like to make my own RSS.

How can I validate my RSS?

  • RSS Validator ~ Validate your RSS with this Web-based form provided by UserLand.

Where can I subscribe to RSS channels?

Are there any RSS search engines?

Can I search for blog postings on a particular subject, create an RSS feed based on the search results, and then subscribe to that feed?

  • Technorati ~ Search for URLs or terms on nearly 2 million blogs, and then subscribe to either an RSS feed or a daily email of results.
  • Daypop ~ Search for a word or phrase (or a URL by prefacing it with "link:", and then on the results page, click on the orange RSS button on the top right of the page - easy as pie.
  • Feedster ~ RSS, ATOM, and OPML feeds available for all searches. Sweet.
  • Waypath ~ Create RSS feeds for results from either the last 24 hours or the best results, no matter the time.
  • Blogdigger ~ Both RS and ATOM are available, which is nice. Seems to have a pretty up-to-date index.
  • Blogdex ~ It's a bit convoluted, but you can create RSS feeds of your searches in order to track URLs.

Can I search for something, create an RSS feed based on the search results, and then subscribe to that feed?

  • Google Alert ~ Enter up to 3 search phrases, and every day Google Alert will search Google and add to the RSS feed for your query if there are any new results. Not affiliated with Google.

What are some good RSS aggregators & newsreaders?
