Change Resolution on Windows

1. Right-click on a blank area of your Windows desktop and then choose Properties.

2. In the Display Properties window, choose the Settings tab.

3. Notice the area below that is marked in red, which Microsoft calls the Screen area. If the Screen area says 800 by 600 pixels, then the computer's resolution is 800 pixels by 600 pixels. This is fine for 15-inch monitors, and also if you've got really, really bad eyesight.

4. If you're using Dreamweaver, or if you've got a monitor that is 17 inches or larger, then you really should be running your monitor with a resolution of 1024 pixels by 800 pixels. I've got a 19-inch monitor at home, and I run it at 1280x1024, but that's pretty small for a lot of people.

In order to change your resolution, select the slider bar and drag it to the right until the resolution changes to 1024 by 768 pixels (or whatever it is that you want).

5. Once you've changed to your desired resolution, choose OK. A warning box will open. Go ahead and choose OK. Note that if you do not take action as described in step 6 below, or if you have a problem and cannot see your screen anymore, after 15 seconds things will return to the way they were.

6. You have 15 seconds to respond to the Monitor Settings box, so act fast. If you can see your screen and everything looks fine, then choose Yes, and your resolution will stick. If you don't like what you see, then choose No, and you'll go back to the way things were.

7. That's it. Your resolution should now be changed. Enjoy.
